Ministerial Search Information Packet
“Our Flaming Chalice” is the brochure the Ministerial Search Committee created to distribute to prospective ministers who have indicated an interest in our church. It is a very brief description of what makes our church and our community so important to us, based in large part on the information we gathered through the surveys and cottage conversations last spring. We’re also posting it here so that everyone can see it.
We hope you will like it!

FAQ about “Our Flaming Chalice” (send questions to minsearch@uucharlottesville.org and we’ll post answers here)
Q: Why the chalice theme?
A: In our many conversations this summer, we kept coming back to the theme of what makes us feel alive and vital at TJMC. The chalice captures for us the warmth, the light, the fire of our church life. We were inspired by the beautiful chalice that Ron Wormser made for the church this year. This search, like the chalice, holds so many of our hopes.
Q: Isn’t this a little short?
A: This brochure is intended to invite the reader in, not to serve as an encyclopedic reference. We decided against the 5 pound binder stuffed with brochures, maps, bulletins and orders of service. We wanted to keep it to a length that could be read in one sitting
Q: But there’s hardly anything about <insert name of your committee or project here>!
A: This isn’t the only document our candidates will get. We have another booklet stuffed with facts and figures, including the budget and the 2009 annual report of the church. We didn’t completely discard the big binder, but we’ve made it into a flash drive. If the brochure is our first date, the flash drive and the reference book are taking your date home to meet the family.
Q: Were can I get a copy?
A: Feel free to download it from this site and print one.
