Faith in Action

How do our religious values intersect with the world in which we live?

The Faith in Action speaker series is designed to look at salient issues in the public eye that are of particular concern to Unitarian Universalists and their values. This fall, the series focuses on issues likely to be important in upcoming election debates, both at the national and local levels. The program allows ample time for question and answer and seeks to establish a meaningful dialogue on important issues.

Faith in Action speaker programs are usually on Sunday mornings at 11:15 in Summit House Room 1 unless otherwise indicated.

All are free and open to the public.

The tentative schedule for this Spring includes:

April 20: Refugees in our Community

Ralph "Ramanan" became a Buddhist very early in life, studying forms of Japanese Zen. This presentation is intended to identify interest in a Buddhism course in next fall

Co-Ministers Class: Biblical Literacy for Troubled Times
Our liberal religious scriptural study continues-as we continue our journey through the Wisdom Literature of the Hebrew Scriptures. In the world we live in, the Bible containing the scriptures sacred to the Jewish and Christian traditions is referred to in many contexts, to justify laws, to condone discriminatory practices, to foment hatred. Many of us have come to fear the very pages that are the source of inspiration for many other peaceful and good actions. In this age, Biblical literacy is a powerful counter to ignorance. Join Revs. David and Leslie Takahashi Morris as we delve together into the stories that are intertwined with our culture.

Biblical Literacy in Times Like These
Letters of Paul - April 5th

Galatians 3:23-29 Christian unity

Galatians 5:16-24 Spirit and flesh

Galatians 6:1-10 Good works

Ephesians 1:9-10 The mystery of God’s plan

Ephesians 4:22-5:2 How to live

Ephesians 6:5-9 Slaves and masters

Philippians 2:4-8 How to be righteous

Philippians 4:8-9 What to think about

This class will be offered in a drop-in format and as part of our Wonderful Wednesdays.
Consider joining us at the Community Dinner from 6 - 7 pm. Child care is available with advance notice!
Bringing a Bible is recommended-Revised New Standard will probably be most helpful.
