Sounds of Music February 2010
“Let this my affirmation be:
In all I do is Love.”
- K. R. Mitchell
This is my affirmation and my aspiration, and one that I come back to time and time again. Reminding myself (when I remember to); returning to that path when I catch myself straying (which is often); and breathing it into my being (when I become aware). It is huge and more often than not I tend to come from a place of fear, not love. But this commitment has begun to transform the way I am in this world: slowly, oh so slowly, yet becoming more and more tangible. And I will need reminders, so thank you in advance!
I share this affirmation during this month of February because of the obvious holiday celebrating love, albeit romantic love. I also share it because it is the name of a hymn I recently composed which I am eager to share with you this winter or spring. As a child I pondered why I was put here on earth and the answer that kept coming to me was “to learn how to love”. Later when I learned the scripture “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.” (I John 4:16), I understood more fully what love is. That is why I capitalized the word love. Thank you for listening to my thoughts.
In the spirit of love, I would like to offer you this opportunity to purchase a hymnal or songbook for your personal use at home. Sometimes we borrow a hymnal or songbook because we are a worship associate and need it as a reference for readings and hymns. Sometimes we borrow a hymnal because we found a reading particularly moving and want to write it down. Sometimes we borrow a hymnal because we like to have it available at home to play through the music. It is so easy to do this – I completely understand. But it is also very easy to quietly bring it back to its home where everyone can use this resource during our worship together. There is a sign up sheet on the music bulletin board if you would like to order a hymnal “Singing the Living Tradition”, a songbook “Singing the Journey”, or a wonderful resource that gives a brief history of each hymn in our hymnal “Between the Lines”. It will be much more efficient and cost effective to submit one large order because of the shipping costs and because of the impact on the environment of shipping. So consider giving yourself a gift of music for Valentine’s Day that will benefit you and the church!
During the month of February we are blessed to have many wonderful musicians contribute to our worship together:
7 Bob Gross, Megan England Ward and Liz Lindau will play special music
14 Voices of Community, our adult choir
21 UVA Women’s Chorus
28 Children’s Choirs
Wishing all of you a month filled with love!
Blessings,
KaeRenae
