Sunday Service   10 AM
August 1, Sunday: Sermon - Prepare Ye the Way, 10 AM. Carol Keese & Megan England Ward. Preparation implies hope, hard work, anxiety, excitement, new beginnings, and sometimes the re-evaluating of what is important. This service explores how we can be about the business of preparing a space in our lives for spiritual renewal.

Sunday Child Care
Summer child care co-op offered during the service for infants through rising fifth graders.

Church This Week

June-August 28: Summit House Closed

August 1, Sunday: Artist Reception: Downing Miller, 11 AM, Social Hall. Most of the paintings by Downing Miller are watercolors of sights she visited in Scotland over the past ten years. The farm house and river paintings are of the family farm in Goshen on the Little Calf Pasture River, inspired after attending the funeral of her favorite great-aunt, who was the last member of the Ramsey family to live on the farm.
August 1, Sunday: Photo Directory Picture Last Day, After Service. This is the last day we will be taking photographs for our Church Directory. If members wish to have a portrait photo from their own collection included then they need to email it to
kipandjean@gmail.com before Thursday, August 19.

August 1+8+15+22+29, Sundays: TJMC UUsed BookStore, After Service, Social Hall. Browse the selection of books and artwork donated to this year’s yard sale before the public has the chance to buy.  Hardbacks $2, soft cover $1, artwork as priced.

August 1, Sunday: Yard Sale Sign Ups, After Service, Social Hall. Come sign up to help with the TJMC Yard Sale Extravaganza and Set Up! We will have sign up sheets in the Social Hall at our table. Come one, come all!

August 3, Tuesday: UUppity Women, 6:30 PM Off Site. Our gathering will be a poolside party at the home of Janice Walker. If you plan to attend, RSVP to uuppities@uucharlottesville.org, so that we know how many to plan for. Bring your swimsuit if you plan to swim. Please also bring a snack to share with the group and a folding chair. Carpooling is requested as parking space is limited. We will email directions and the names of those attending so you can plan your carpool.

August 6, Friday: Food Pantry, 9:30 AM, Social Hall.

August 8, Sunday: Sermon - The Meaning of Life: Intended & Creative, 10 AM. Wendy Repass & Elizabeth Breeden. We explore Meaning as a creative act, time well spent that counts as direction or meaningful activity, not something you search for.

Church Notes & Requests for Help
Yard Sale Items Needed! Your hard-working yard sale sorting/pricing crew has run out of items to work with, so bring your donations now to Room 1 of Summit House on Sunday mornings or anytime during the week when the Church Office is open. We accept furniture, kitchenware, linens, decorative items, kid’s games and toys, sporting equipment, yard and garden items, electronics, books, and CD/DVDs. Due to space considerations, we cannot accept computers or printers, non-cable-ready TVs, large exercise equipment, child car seats or clothing. All donations must be in saleable condition or they will be subject to discard. Please hold larger furniture items until August to maximize our working space. For questions or to get on the list for furniture pickup, please write
yardsale@uucharlottesville.org or speak with Elizabeth Breeden or Jean Newland.

Chalice Lighters: Help provide funding for new UU congregations in our district and you will be a Chalice Lighter. The Thomas Jefferson District has sent a call for funds to help Wake Forest PEACE Fellowship provide a permanent, stable site to replace their temporary, se-up-take-down meeting place. Please pick up literature at Edith Good’s cold drinks counter in the Social Hall after the service or phone her at 293-4044. Thanks.

KLM Photos: If you had your picture taken by KLM Photography then you can pick up your copy(ies) at the TJMC UUsed Bookstore after services any Sunday.
