A Grace-Full Spring: A Taize Service
Can you say “Taizé”?
“Taizé -style” [tey-zey/ti-zey] worship refers to a particular form of worship practiced by the Taizé Community, an ecumenical Christian group in Taizé, France. Originally founded in the 1940’s by a man named Brother Roger to meet the needs of WWII refugees, the Taizé Community has become internationally known as a place of pilgrimage and peace by people of faith from all over the world.
The Taizé [tey-zey/ti-zey] service is an hour-long meditative, candle-lit ceremony that centers around music, prayer, and silence, to quiet the mind, open the heart and feed the soul. It is a time of quiet and solitude seeking the presence of the Spirit you may call God. A few words sung over and over again reinforce the meditative quality of prayer, allowing it to be grasped quickly by the heart and intellect, gradually penetrating the whole being.
Now you have the opportunity to come and experience a Taizé-style worship service that has been adapted for UU congregations. Through music, readings, and meditation, this candle-lit, contemplative service will continue the March theme of “Grace”. Please come and join us on Sunday evening, March 18, from 7:30 to 8:30 PM in the TJMC Sanctuary.
(Child care will be provided for children aged 10 and under; parents should consider whether or not their older child or teen would be interested in this type of worship experience, and determine if this service is appropriate for his or her participation.)
