Active Minds
David Takahashi Morris
A group of friendly faces who meet Thursdays at 10:30 AM in the Church Parlor
to discuss a variety of topics pertaining to daily life and the world. Meetings
last about an hour and a half with refreshments about halfway through and are
open to all.
Administrative Council
Johan Madson
Coordinates the activities of the committees involved with the church’s
financial activities, its staff and physical plant.
Adult Faith Development
Reba Camp
Chooses and coordinates a wide variety of adult religious education classes
and activities on evenings and weekends throughout the year.
Aesthetics Committee

Approves proposals that influence the aesthetics of the church’s
rooms and buildings such as paint colors, curtains, furniture, and artwork
Altar Decorations
Lynn Horwitz
Coordinates the altar decorations for Sunday morning services.
Artists/Art Shows
Elizabeth Breeden
Organizes monthly exhibitions of art by local artists or special interest groups
connected to UU. Artists donate ten percent of sales to the church.
Back Page Writers
Joyce Amato Moore
People who want to become better writers by generating new ideas and new materials
through a variety of writing exercises and assignments. In addition, they take
turns sharing their work, offering constructive criticism, and receiving suggestions
for improvement.

Assists UU families from other locations to find a place to stay and rest.
Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees, elected by the congregation in May, constitutes the
governing body of the church.
Book Table

Maintains the UU book cart and other printed material for sale to the congregation
during Sunday coffee hour.
Bridge Group

Social bridge, all levels welcome. Meets in Summit House Room 1 on the second
Monday of the month from 7-9 p.m.
Buildings

Organizes work parties to maintain church buildings and manages the budget
for building repairs and upkeep.

Reviews policy concerning the bulletin content and production.
Canvass

Responsible for planning and coordinating our annual canvass which provides
most of the operating budget of the church.

Chalice Lighters
Edith Good
Chalice Lighters is a UUA-wide organization seeking members willing to donate
$15 or more three times a year toward spreading UU-ism throughout the US, and
particularly through our own TJ District to support fellowships and congregations
building their first church or calling their first minister.
Children's Religious
Education
Carrie Berger
Works with the Director of Religious Education to create the religious education
experiences for our two-year-old through sixth-grade students. Focus areas
include curricula selection, special events, social action projects, and children's
worship. Supports RE teaching teams.

Music is chosen from many different traditions to enhance worship and strengthen
our community.
Coffee Servers
Elizabeth Breeden
Set up refreshments including coffee, tea, lemonade, cookies, etc. for coffee
hour after Sunday services and clean up afterwards.

the door for Sunday services and welcomes newcomers at the Visitors' Table
in the Jefferson Foyer. The goal is to make all people feel welcome in our

This parent-run, cooperative preschool operates in the lower hall of the church
five mornings a week. Was founded in 1967 by the church to provide an integrated
multicultural preschool experience for church and community families.

Works with MMP to facilitate joint activities and use of the Lower Hall space.
Annually negotiates with MMP concerning the contractual relationship between
the two organizations.

Responsible for the oversight, administration, and enhancement of the music
programs and works with and provides support to the Director of Music.
Nature Spirit
Kirstin Fritz
Nature Spirit, an official chapter of Covenant of UU Pagans, welcomes all who
feel nature is a vital part of spirituality. It affirms the spiritual teachings
of earth-centered and pagan traditions, celebrates the sacred circle of life,
and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. They have regular
meetings, activitie,s and worship services to celebrate the turning of the
seasons and the sacredness of nature.
PACEM

Church members provide breakfast and dinner and a place to sleep for homeless
persons for one to two weeks several times a year.
Partner Church

Maintains an ongoing, mutually beneficial relationship with our partner churches
in Oltheviz, Romania and Nonkrem, India.
Pastoral Visitors
Shirley Paul
Church members appointed by the coministers to serve as pastoral care givers
in our congregation. Work with the coministers to offer personal spiritual
support to members of the church community who are ill at home or in the hospital,
or going through a life crisis or transition, or are involved in care-giving.
They provide comfort to the bereaved and maintain contact with those unable
to attend church. They also sponsor workshops on relevant topics and community
resources.
Peace Conversations

Leads social action discussions and actions opposing war and promoting peace.

Deals with church personnel concerns as necessary and acts as a liaison group
to staff members.

A social group for those in their twenties and thirties that gathers for regular
monthly meetings and social events throughout the month.
Undoing Racism
Jean Shepard
A group whose goal is to understand and counter the negative effects of racism
in our lives, understood as a personal and institutional prejudice against
racial minorities. Activities include personal support and study, educational
programs and conferences, and political action.
UU Christian Fellowship (UUCF)
Eleanor May & Dave Dawson
The local chapter of UUCF meets the third Thursday of the month. Their aspirations
include community building, worship experience, opportunities for ritual experiences,
and maintaining contact with other Christians.
UUGuys
Adam Slate
A men’s group meeting for mutual support and to lend service to the church
community. Meetings center around getting to know each other, pursuing intellectual
or religious questions, and purely social activities.
UUppity Women
Lynn Heath
You can be UUppity at any age! Women of all ages meet twice a month, one is
an informal conversation and the other an activity. They meet on the first
and third Tuesday of the month for fellowship and spiritual development.
Ushers

Help set up and organize the sanctuary for Sunday morning services, distribute
the orders of service, and collect the offertory. Teams work once every 7-8
weeks.
UU United Nations
Al Reynolds
Provides financial support to the United Nations' efforts to help those in
other countries through UNICEF and other programs.
Vespers

An evening worship service focused on quiet reflection and healing held each
Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:00 PM.
Virginia
UU Students (VUUS)
Laura Horn
Open to area college and university students seeking spiritual grounding during
busy college life. Serves as a spiritual home for students by providing support
for students through the challenges, sorrows, and triumphs of their college
experience.
Volunteer Coordinating

Organizes activities promoting the volunteer opportunities at TJMC including
activity fairs, the Time and Talent Survey, and volunteer recognition activities.
Youth Programs Committee

Works with the Director of Religious Education to design and implement religious
education programming for seventh through twelfth grade youth. Focus areas
include: Worship, leadership development, learning, social action, social activities.
