Your Support is Needed Now!

URGENT: Please, submit your pledge now! The Board of Trustees is preparing the final budget in less than a week and we are $35,000 short of our minimum budget. We are $71,000 short of a budget that would cover all requests. As it stands now, cuts in important programs and possibly in our staff will need to take place.  With the enthusiastic, unanimous calling of Rev. Wikstrom to be at our helm, we want to offer all crucial programs that would enable us to set the stage for a dynamic inaugural year.

We very much appreciate those of you have pledged, who have increased your initial pledge and would like to thank everyone who has truly showed how they Take Care of the Church We Love. Please join this community of generous givers!

Pledges can by made by clicking here or visiting our website at uucharlottesville.org. If you have questions or want to talk with someone, please email Karen Ransom or Dan Spitzner at stewardship@uucharlottesville.org. Thank you.

The Stewardship Campaign is Coming!

i_love_tjmcuu_4What an exciting time of changes in this church! While these changes can be both exhilarating and challenging, they bring opportunities for us to use our creativity in forging our path ahead. In this spirit, we are excited to introduce a new creative initiative, the 2011-2012 Stewardship Campaign “Taking Care of the Church We Love.” This campaign will share many elements of what in the past was known as the “Annual Canvass.” It marks an intentional effort within the congregation to strengthen our connections with each other, and encourage our commitment to TJMC-UU. This will be an opportunity to discuss our individual roles as stewards of the church, focusing on its many joys and responsibilities.

Beginning on Commitment Sunday, February 27, the discussion will intensify, during which we will connect one-on-one with each household of our community, to discuss, among other things, your annual financial support to the church.

The Stewardship Campaign is more than a re-branding of the canvass. It is an ambitious effort to inform our giving through a much larger conversation about stewardship. This campaign is a celebration of the church we love. It is a time to recognize the wonderful community and cause that the church is. We look forward to celebrating with you and hope that you will join in the fun. One of our goals is to involve as many people as possible in this campaign. Please consider volunteering to help out in any way you can. We have callers, cooks, designers and envelope stuffers and need your talents as well. Contact Karen Ransom or Dan Spitzner at stewardship@uucharlottesville.org with any questions and to find out more.

Canvass Update

Stewardship is a recent “buzzword” in church fundraising. One of stewardship’s definitions according to the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary is: “the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.” That is a very empowering way of thinking about our church - something entrusted to our care. It implies so much more than making an annual pledge each spring. Indeed, as has been pointed out to us by Rev. Terry Switzer during last year’s visit with us, it is an ongoing, year-round commitment to and involvement with this church community.

We are making an intentional effort this year to revitalize ourselves as full stewards of this church. Yes, we are asking for your annual pledge of financial support at this time. But just as importantly, we are asking for a recommitment of your membership and your active participation in the life and work of this congregation.

We are responsible for TJMC-UU — each of us individually, all of us collectively. The values, history, mission, work, staff, buildings… in short, the current and future vitality of this church is entrusted to our care. There are no others. We are the stewards of this church.

As you consider your level of participation and of annual financial support, consider it from the standpoint of stewardship — “the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.” Who we are and what we can become is a direct reflection of our commitment and our generosity, of the level and quality of our stewardship.

If you have not already done so, return your pledge card to the Church no later than Tuesday, March 30. Or, you can pledge online through our website uucharlottesville.org by clicking on the “Committed to our Future” button; or by email to pledge@uucharlottesville.org. Extra pledge cards are in the pews and on the bulletin board by the Pledge tracking thermometer. You may also contact one of the Co-Chairs of this year’s fund drive if you need a pledge card.
