May 29, Sunday: 10 AM Services Start. May 29, Sunday: Sermon: In Honor of Fathers, Mothers, & Others, Rev. Dr. Janet E. Newman. Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day are enshrined in May and June, respectively. But why limit ourselves to certain days to celebrate and honor those who brought us into being? For this Memorial Day Sunday, there will be recognition in the memorial garden of those loved ones who have died. |

Church This Week. May 28, Saturday: Greenbrier/Hillsdale Road Cleanup Time Again, 9:30 AM, Food Lion Rt 29. Volunteers needed e-mail Dick Somer diksomer@gmail.com. May 29, Sunday: Memorial Day Ceremony, 11 AM, Remembrance Garden. There will be a Memorial Day ceremony in the Remembrance Garden after the service. Please come and honor those men and women who served our nation at home and on foreign shores to protect our freedom and way of life. Your presence will make this day meaningful for all of us. If you missed the Services Auction and really wanted to go to the best event ever, you can still get a ticket to the Biscuit Run Picnic! June 3, Friday: Food Pantry, 9 AM, Social Hall. June 5, Sunday: Sermon - COA Worship Service. The Coming of Age class (Ninth grade) joyfully invites you to worship this morning as we celebrate our church community through music, stories, and laughter. Come experience the energy of this amazing group of young people. A deeply moving part of the service will be hearing the youth’s Faith Statements. You will leave inspired and energized! A reception honoring this religious education volunteers follows the service. June 5, Sunday: Religious Education Teacher Appreciation Reception, 11 AM, Social Hall. Please come and celebrate our wonderful RE volunteers! Food provided by the Children and Youth Religious Education Committees. June 5, Sunday: Artist Reception, 11 AM, Social Hall. Artists Michele Price and Ucky Light always produce a show of opposites. Ucky Light is an abstract painter producing art work full of color, form and fantasy. Michele Price’s focus is primarily drawing with the emphasis on light, dark and interpretive realism. This exhibit presents contrasting mediums –paint versus pencil, color versus black and white and most interestingly, abstract versus realism. |

Church Notes & Requests for Help CommonSpaces will be Discontinued: The CommonSpaces website will be discontinued effective Friday, July 1. Some content previously stored there will be moved to the public web site. However, if you have any files or other content that you wish to save, please contact the Web Committee at web@uucharlottesville.org. Registration is underway for our summer “TJMC SUUper Sunday Summer Camp with Dr. Seuss.” Children four years-old through rising sixth graders are invited to participate. Register online at http://www.uucharlottesville.org/education/re-summer-registration or at the RE table in the Social Hall. The fun begins Sunday, May 29. Questions? Contact Robyn Fogler, RE Assistant, at 293-8179 extension 6#. Sign-ups for Circle Dinners held on the weekend of July 8-10 will not begin until we have recruited a few more hosts for the dinner. Please help make these dinners possible by volunteering to host. Sign up in the Social Hall on Sundays after the service or by contacting Sally Taylor. Lost Art Work: Patty Wallens’ art work fell off the wall (apparently) in the Sanctuary and we hope someone put it somewhere. It was a small “box” folded out along the edges and a collage of images inside. If you find it or put it somewhere please notify Elizabeth Breeden. Sound System Help Needed: We need volunteers to operate the Sound System for the 10 AM Sunday Services through the summer. There is a sign up sheet on the Worship Council bulletin board for you to indicate your availability. Or you can email Bob Kiefer to volunteer. Thanks for your help. Registration for the 2011-2012 Religious Education Program for Children & Youth Please stop the table in the Social Hall and complete your family’s registration form. Registration is also available at http://www.uucharlottesville.org/education/religious-education-program-registration, on the church’s website. All families with children infant through twelfth grade need to register. Thank you! Helping Hands Needed for the Coming of Age Recognition dinner Saturday, June 11. Do you have a couple of hours you could offer as part of the set up or clean up team? Please contact Leia Durland-Jones at 293-8179 x 3# . This dinner recognizes all the hard work of our youth and their mentors. Please help make it a special night! |
