July 3, Sunday Sermon - The Practice of Compassion Begins in the Heart, Wendy Repass. What would the world look like if we all practiced compassion not only towards others but also ourselves? Bullies are said to hate themselves as much as they hate others. What if we acted compassionately towards ourselves? Could a practice of self compassion lead to greater compassion for others? There will be special musical guests.

Church Notes & Requests for Help

Carolyn Silver: Long time church member, Carolyn Silver, died on Saturday, June 18, at Hospice House. Her health had declined gradually over the last few weeks and she was able to make choices with her son, Thane, about her care. While Carolyn expressed that she did not want a memorial service held after her death, many of us at TJMC want to celebrate and honor Carolyn’s life. TJMC’s Ministry team and others will reflect over the next few weeks on how create space to both honor Carolyn’s life as well as her wishes. You are encouraged on your own to finds ways that make sense to you to honor Carolyn, such as lighting a candle or sharing stories with others. Please feel free to contact Rev. Tony Perrino  for any pastoral support at this time.

Summit House: All groups normally meeting in Summit House will be moved to new locations beginning the end of June and running through the end of August. We will be using Summit House to store donations for our Yard Sale. Please check the online church calendar to see where your group’s new meeting place will be or contact the Church Office. We will also be changing the combination to the lock box on Friday, July 1.

TJMC Online Calendar: Be sure to visit our website at uucharlottesville.org to check you meeting dates and times. We will be moving all groups out of Summit House the end of June thru the end of August to make room to store Yard Sale items. If your group normally meets in Summit House you may want to check the calendar to see where you will meet during this time period. You may also call the Church Office to check.

#3-7 Recycling: TJMC is no long accepting items to be recycled such as the #3-7 plastics.

TJMC-UU Bulletin: We are counting down to the last mailing of the TJMC Bulletin. The Bulletin has been available on the church website for years. Starting in September, with the new program year, we will no longer be routinely mailing the Bulletin out, saving time, money, and paper. We will continue to print a few paper copies, for our visitors and members of the congregation who do not have ready access to computers. If reading the Bulletin online or picking up a copy at church presents a hardship for you, please contact the Church Office to arrange for a copy to be mailed.

Scrip: When you buy groceries, pharmacy items or gasoline at Kroger, TJMC gets 5% of every dollar you spend. Just use a TJMC-linked Kroger GiftCard when you shop. You earn money to support TJMC and It Costs You Nothing! Last year our Kroger shoppers generated $8,000, and this year, with your help, we hope to raise over $20,000! How do I participate? Buy a $50 starter card at the $CRIP table on Sunday. Refill the card at the customer service counter as needed. And Yes! You can use your rewards credit card to refill your GiftCard. Why should I participate? Purchasing Scrip is as much a part of Stewardship as making your annual financial pledge to support The Church We Love. The revenue raised through your support will help pay our staff and fund our internal and outreach programs. There is no easier way to support TJMC and it is at no cost to you. We need this money and we need your support. Please, support Scrip today!

TJMC Annual Yard Sale Extravaganza: Please hold all large items and furniture donations until August if possible. The generosity of our congregants has created a storage problem for our sorting and pricing team. Once we have had time to work through some of our initial donations, we will hopefully have more space available. Thank you. Summer is here and it is time to consider vacation plans. But before you pack your bags, make sure you have checked your closets, attics, garages, and basements for treasures for the TJMC Yard Sale Extravaganza. The Sale is scheduled for Saturday, August 20. On Monday, June 27, our fabulous Yard Sale Team will begin the sorting and pricing process, so feel free to bring in your boxes and bags of treasures that week. As we have done in the past, we ask that you hold furniture until the week prior to the sale. If you have any questions, please contact us at yardsale@uucharlottesville.org. Thank you, and happy summer.

TJMC-UU Bulletin: We are counting down to the last mailing of the TJMC Bulletin. The Bulletin has been available on the church website for years. Gift For KaeRenae: All are invited to share in honoring KaeRenae Mitchell and her long tenure at TJMC-UU as Director of Music. Please write checks payable to the church with “KaeRenae’s gift” on the memo line and bring or send them to the Church Office – or place them in the offering plate during the service.
