Church Notes & Requests for Help February 2011 Monthly Bulletin is now online at uucharlottesville.org. Snow Shovelers Needed: We are in need of a few people who could help shovel our sidewalks on snowy days. If you are available then please contact Sallie Kate Park at 978-7360. Taking Care of the Church We Love: What does taking care of our church mean to you? We want to know! Tell us about it! Please gather your thoughts, stories, artwork and other expressions of Stewardship and submit them to us by email at stewardship@uucharlottesville.org or put them in the Stewardship mailbox at church. Each entry will be posted in a “Stewardship” blog appearing on the church website. Thanks! The Stewardship Committee would love to have canvassing volunteers come forward and help to ensure that the church we care about is well-funded in the coming fiscal year. If you would like to help, contact Dan Spitzner at dan.spitzner@gmail.com or Karen Ransom at kpransom@comcast.net. Are you interested in how the church works? Who sets the thermostat? How are repairs made? Who determines what color the carpet is? Who is responsible for the church server? If you’re interested in questions like these or doing these types of activities, then the church Administrative Council is right for you. If you have experience dealing with technology, design, buildings, money, management, or simply want to get more experience in these areas, the Administrative Council is looking for volunteers. The church needs more volunteers to ensure that all of these functions run smoothly. Please e-mail Sean McCutcheon at smccut@googlemail.com if you would like more information. Make a Gift Through an Ira Charitable Rollover: Normally, a distribution from your IRA is taxed as ordinary income. However, tax legislation just enacted extends the opportunity throughout 2011 for individuals 701/2 or older to make a direct distribution from your IRA to a qualified charity, such as TJMC or the TJMC Endowment Fund. Such qualified direct distributions to charity from your IRA are not subject to income tax. The new law also provides that you may consider such distributions made in January 2011 as made in 2010. Attention Kroger Shoppers! When you buy groceries, pharmacy items or gasoline at Kroger, TJMC gets 5% of every dollar you spend. Just use a TJMC-Linked Kroger Gift Card. It costs you nothing!
Last year we generated $8,000, and this year, with your help, we hope to raise over $20,000! Imagine the good we could do with that money and at no cost to you. It is just that easy! Please sign up today and shop at Kroger with your TJMC-Linked GiftCard. Do you receive our Religious Education newsletter with weekly highlights and information about what is happening in our Children and Youth Religious Education program? You do not need to have children in the program to be added to the mailing list. To add you name, contact Leia Durland-Jones at leiadj@embarqmail.com. |
