August 15, Sunday: Social Action Collection - Charlottesville Health Access (CHA). CHA is dedicated to its mission of “providing healthcare access for the homeless and underserved.” Access to healthcare, mental health services and prescriptions are often an insurmountable hurdle for those who lack the basic necessities of housing and proper nutrition. Because we care for the well-being of our neighbors, CHA advocates for those who often do not have a voice. Started in 2007 under the PACEM umbrella, CHA is now based at The HAVEN, as a Healthcare Navigation Center for triage, medical access services, prescription co-payment assistance and many other navigation resource. CHA provides volunteer opportunities for medical professionals, students and community members to serve their neighbors. And most of all, we build relationships with the people we serve.

August 15, Sunday: TJMC-UU September Monthly Bulletin Submissions Due.

Church Notes & Requests for Help

Yard Sale Items Needed! Your hard-working yard sale sorting/pricing crew has run out of items to work with, so bring your donations now to Room 1 of Summit House on Sunday mornings or anytime during the week when the Church Office is open. We accept furniture, kitchenware, linens, decorative items, kid’s games and toys, sporting equipment, yard and garden items, electronics, books, and CD/DVDs. Due to space considerations, we cannot accept computers or printers, non-cable-ready TVs, large exercise equipment, child car seats or clothing. All donations must be in saleable condition or they will be subject to discard. Please hold larger furniture items until August to maximize our working space. For questions or to get on the list for furniture pickup, please write yardsale@uucharlottesville.org or speak with Elizabeth Breeden or Jean Newland.

Transitional Ministry Associate Appointed:  Alexandra McGee has been asked by Interim Minister Dr. Janet Newman and by the Board to serve a one-year term as Transitional Ministry Associate. In this role, Alex will teach, preach, make pastoral visits, and help in other ways as directed by Rev. Dr. Newman.  This is a ten hour a week commitment to TJMC.  Alex graduated from a Unitarian Universalist seminary, Starr King School for the Ministry, in 2008, and spent a year training as a hospital chaplain. In addition to her role at TJMC, Alex also works as a chaplain at Hospice of the Piedmont and teaches yoga. She says she is delighted to be called to this blended community ministry. Alex may be reached through the Church Office and at TMA@uucharlottesville.org.

Chalice Lighters: Help provide funding for new UU congregations in our district and you will be a Chalice Lighter. The Thomas Jefferson District has sent a call for funds to help Wake Forest PEACE Fellowship provide a permanent, stable site to replace their temporary, se-up-take-down meeting place. Please pick up literature at Edith Good’s cold drinks counter in the Social Hall after the service or phone her at 293-4044. Thanks.

KLM Photos: If you had your picture taken by KLM Photography then you can pick up your copy(ies) at the TJMC UUsed Bookstore after services any Sunday.
