Congregational Meeting: May 16, 12:45 PM

Please come to the Annual Spring Congregational Meeting to be held after the second service on Sunday, May 16, at 12:45 PM in the Sanctuary. This will be your last chance to support the Coming of Age fund-raising efforts; they will be selling a delicious and nutritious lunch for all to enjoy before we get down to work.

In addition to electing new Board members, we will be voting in our new ministerial search committee. It is vitally important that we get this group started on the work of finding the best candidates possible.

We will also be voting on the budget. Our Board of Trustees had to make very difficult decisions in the budget process this year because the canvass yielded less than we had hoped. Consequently, the budget we will be approving includes cuts in staff hours (reducing pastoral care/ministerial support by over $6,000, reducing the RE Assistant position from ½ to ¼ time, and reducing the Director of Music position from ¾ to ½ time). The budget also has reductions in programs, including cuts to religious education, music, building maintenance, and office expenses among others. It is important for church members to read the budget and ask questions before the congregational meeting.

We will be sending out a packet of information to all church members about this meeting, which will include the slate of Board member candidates, the proposed search committee members, and the proposed 2010-2011 budget. Please let us know if you do not receive your packet by Wednesday, May 12.

Let us all practice the fifth principle of Unitarian Universalism: promoting and affirming: The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregation.
