Adult Faith Development Upcoming Classes - November

Estate Planning for Unitarian Universalists
55% of adult Americans do not have a will. If you die without an estate plan, the state will decide what happens to your estate. No one’s “estate” is too small that you don’t need (or shouldn’t have) a plan. Estate planning does not have to cost a fortune! Planned giving is a great way to support the charities that are near and dear to your heart. In particular, there are great vehicles to support the future of TJMC by making gifts to the Endowment Fund. This can be a simple bequest or through gift arrangements that provide you with income now, throughout your life. Come prepared to take notes and bring your questions!

Leaders: Rosalie Simari, Stephanie Lowenhaupt, and Art Sherwood

Rosalie and Stephanie will give an overview of estate planning and Art, a retired Estate Attorney, will give information on wills, charitable gift annuities and pooled income funds.

Simply Pray
In 2005, Skinner House Books published Simply Pray: a Modern Spiritual Practice to Deepen Your Life. In this book Rev. Erik proposes a particularly Unitarian Universalist approach to prayer — a functional, structural approach that allows each practioner to bring her or his own theological colorings to a practice that can be as easily adopted by Atheists as Zoroastrians. Come and learn more. [Participants will have the opportunity to create their own UU Prayer Beads.]

Leader: Erik Walker Wikstrom
Erik Walker Wikstrom is the newly settled minister of TJMC. Before this he has served two other UU congregations for a combined total of approximately thirteen years, and served for three years on the UUA staff in Boston. He brings a passion for our faith and its history, and a certainty that knowing where we’ve come from is an essential foundation for building our future.
